Nae Kapde Badal Kar Jao'n Kaha'n (With English Translation)

Naye kapre badal kar jaun kahan aur bal banaun kis kay liye
Wo shakhs to shahar hi chor gaya main bahar jaaun kis kay liye
Attired in dainty raiments where should I go again? For whom should I flaunt my braided tresses again?
My beloved forsook the town, for whom should I come out from my seclusion again?

Jis dhup ki dil ko thandak thi wo dhup usi kay sath gai
In jalti bujhti galiyon main ab khak uraun kis k liye
The sunshine whose soul caroused in soothes also departed with him,
In these sweltering grimy lanes for who should I rummage fanatically again?

Wo shahar main tha to us k liye auron se milna parta tha
Ab aise-waise logon k main naaz uthaun kis kay liye
When he was in town I used to rendezvous with others for his sake,
For whom shall I endure these idiosyncrasies of masses again?

Ab shahar main is ka badal hi nahi koi waisa jan-e-gazal hi nahi
Aiwan-e-gazal main lafzon kay guldan sajaun kis kay liye
Nowhere in the town can I find his akin- none like that soul of my melodies,
In the congregations of melodies for who shall I embellish the bouquets of words again?

Muddat se koi aya na gaya sunsan pari hai ghar ki faza
In khali kamron main 'Nasir' ab shamma jalaun kis k liye
Since eternities none has stepped in or out, desolate the mien of my house,
In these destitute rooms ‘Nasir’ for who shall I light the lamps again?

Zindagi Ke Mayle Mai'n (With English Translation)

Zindagii ke mele mein
Khvaahishon ke rele mein
Tum se kyaa kahein jaanaa
Kis qadar jhamele mein
Vaqt kii ravaanii hai
BaKht kii giraanii hai
SaKht bezamiinii hai
SaKht laamakaanii hai
Hijr ke samandar mein
TaKht aur taKhte kii
Ek hii kahaanii hai
Tum ko jo sunaanii hai
In the carnival of life lively,
In the cascade of desires swirly,
How shall I narrate to you, Love
The extent of my troubles weighty!
The steed of time trots swiftly,
While fate weighs heavily upon me,
The earth falls too short for me ,
While abodes loathe and elude me!
In the vast estrangement sea,
The tale of the throne and fortune
Is a simple single one only,
That’ll be told to you,
As it occurred, faithfully!!

Baat go zaraa sii hai
Baat umr bhar kii hai
Umr bhar kii baatein kab
Do ghaDii mein hotii hain
Dard ke samandar mein
Anginat jaziiren hain
Beshumaar motii hain
AaNkh ke dariiche mein
Tum ne jo sajaayaa thaa
Baat us diye kii hai
Baat us gile kii hai
Jo lahuu kii Khilvat mein
Chor ban ke aataa hai
Lafz ke fasiilon par
TuuT TuuT jaataa hai
Though the matter is one of triviality,
Yet it embodies my whole life’s story
When could matters of life and death
Be settled in a moment or two only?
In the vast frightening ‘sorrow sea’
The isles are numerous and many
Glistening with many a gem and ruby!
In the casement of the heart
That you decorated with emotion aplenty,
The question is of that lamp pretty,
The question is of that grievance friendly!
That creeps into the heart and blood’ s privacy
Like a thief sneaks up slowly, quietly!
Coming against the wall of words,
Is shattered into smithereens tiny, helplessly!

Zindagii se lambii hai
Baat rat_jage kii hai
Raaste mein kaise ho
Baat taKhaliye kii hai
TaKhaliye kii baaton mein
Guftaguu izaafii hai
Pyaar karane vaalon ko
Ik nigaah kaafii hai
Ho sake to sun jaao
Ek din akele mein
Tum se kyaa kahein jaanaaN
Iis qadar jhamele mein
Larger than the entire life-
Long as it might be,
The conversation is of those vigils nightly,
How to converse on this road busy?
The matter is one that demands privacy!
In this private tete a tete,
Conversation is a mere adjunct only,
To those who love truly,
No more than a mere glance is necessary
If you can, lend it an ear keenly
In solitude unimpeded by anybody!
If only I could narrate, my Love
My difficulty – fashioned from fate’s apathy!

Hamari Sanso'n Mai'n Aaj Thak Wo Hina Ki Khushbu (With English Translation)

Hamari sanson mein aaj tak woh heena ki khushboo mehek rahi hai
Labon pe naghme machal rahe hain nazar se masti jhalak rahi hai
The aroma of that amorous henna still lingers in my memory,
Melodies throb on my lips, eyes gleam with mirth and jollity!

Woh mere nazdeek aate-aate haya se ek din simat gaye the
Mere khayalon mein aaj tak woh badan ki daali lachak rahi hai
As she inched closer to me coyly, shyly; she drew back blushingly
My thoughts are still intrigued by the ‘blithe sway’ of her stalk like body!!

Sada jo dil se nikal rahi hai woh sheron-nagmon mein dhal rahi hai
Ke dil ke aangan mein jaise koi gazal ki jhanjhan jhanak rahi hai
The clamour that stems from the heart is moulded into verse and song,
As if the anklets of a ghazal tinkle in the recesses of my heart pleasantly!

Tadap mere beqarar dil ki kabhi to unpe asar karegi
Kabhi to woh bhi jalenge usme jo aag dil mein dehek rahi hai
The flutters of my restive heart will surely beguile her someday,
One day she too will be kindled in the blazes that desire fans tenderly!

Gham Hai Ya Khushi Hai Tu'u (With English Translation)

Gham hai yaa Khushii hai tuu
merii zindagii hai tuu
An affliction of sorrow or does ecstasy of joy define you?
Be it what, my life derives its context from you!!

aafatoN ke daur meN
chain kii ghaRii hai tuu
In these times that dole out catastrophes
The only relief and comfort I have is you!!

merii raat kaa chiraaGh
merii niiNd bhii hai tuu
The lamp that shields me from grim nights,
The blissful sleep, too,  I sink into- that is you

maiN KhizaaN kii shaam huuN
rut bahaar kii hai tuu
I am the withered autumn evening,
The season of invigorating spring: you!!

dostoN ke darmiyaan
vajh-e-dostii hai tuu
In those bound together by bonds of camaraderie,
That which begets this amity is you!!

merii saarii umr meN
aik hii kamii hai tuu
In this entire life of mine,
The only paucity I suffer from is you!!

maiN to vo nahiiN rahaa
haaN! magar vohii hai tuu
I ceased to be as I used to be,
But Aye!! Not a change has come over you!!

“Nasir” is dayaar meN
kitnaa ajnabii hai tuu
“Nasir” in this place teeming with life,
So an unfamiliar stranger are you!!

Aiye Hath Utha'en (with English Translation)

Aiye hath uthaen hum bhi
Hum jinhay rasm e dua yaad nahi
Hum jinhay soz e muhabbat k siwa
Koi butt koi khuda yaad nahi
Come! Let us, too, raise our hands in prayer ,
We –those who’ve banished to ‘oblivion realm’ the ritual of prayer
We- who except the scorching blaze of love,
Recognise no idol, no Divine being do we prefer!

Aiye arz guzarain ki nigaar e hasti
Zehr-e-amroz main shirni e farad bhar de
wo jinhay tab-e-garaan baari e ayaam nahi
un ki palkon pe shab-o-roz ko halka kar de
Come, let us too supplicate that the ‘Existence Savior’
May instill in today’s bitter venom tomorrow’s luscious rapture,
The strength to bear the onerous times-those who cannot conjure,
remove from their eyes the affliction of arduous ‘day and night’
andmake their burden lighter!

Jin Ki Ankhon Ko Rukh e Subh Ka Yara bhi Nahi
Un Ki Raaton Main Koi Shamma Munawar Kar Dain
Jin K Qadmon Ko Kisi Rah Ka Sahara BhiNahi
Un Ki NazronPe Koi Raah Ujagar Kar Dain
They-whose eyes lie bereft of the strength to glimpse the face of ‘dawn-azure’
May it illumine the black crevices of their nights with a candle or two,
They- whose strides lie orphaned of the comfort of accruing any road’s pleasure,
May it dawn upon their lost feet the comfort of a road or two!

Jin Ka Deen Pairavi e Kazb o Riya Hai un Ko
Himmat e kufr milay,Jurrat e Tehqiq Milay
Jin Kay Sar Muntazir e Tegh e Jafa Hain Un Ko
Dast E Qatil Jhatak Denay Ki Taufiq Milay
Those - whose deities lay in falsity and deceit, may they
Be bestowed with the impudence of infidelity, the audacity to seek!
Those – whose heads await the sabre of tyranny, may they
Be bestowed with the inspiration to ward off the tyrant’s hand oblique!!

Ishq ka sir-e-nihaan jaan tapaan hai jis se
aaj iqrar karain aur tapish mit jaaye
harf e haq dil main khatakta hai jo kaantay ki tarha
aaj izhar karain aur khalish mitjae....
The esoteric mystery of love that revels in the fervent soul, let us today
forge a covenant with it and let our yearning be quenched!
The word of truth that nestles uneasily in the heart like a prickly thorn,
Let this truth be confessed that our aches be squelched!
